Educated Ducks Vs. Educated Hunters
by Rod Clark
I was sitting in my office the other day mentally reviewing the past weekends hunt. I was kicking myself for not limiting out on Greenheads by 9:00. What had I done wrong? Ok, let me back up and set the scene for you.
It was a nice windy day around 45 degrees with a cold front moving in from the north. Perfect right? I hunt public ground almost exclusively for the simple fact that I don't have the finances to have my own club, yet. Naturally, I had to compete for a good spot against quite a few other hunters who were also thinking that today was going to be the day! We draw for our spot and low and behold, we get the exact spot we wanted! Man was I excited. That spot had been hammering the mallards for two weeks straight. We should have no trouble getting our birds, getting out, and getting home! I had watched that spot for several weeks as I hunted a neighboring pool and watched and endless amount of birds come off the refuge and sail right into the flooded corn and rest on a small peninsula of dry land right in the middle. This was going to be easy, or was it?
